Operator, Compounding Department

Position Purpose:

The Compounding Operator, performs a variety of production functions within the compounding department. This would include but not be limited to: operating mixers, grinders, and extruders for plastic parts, packing finished pellets into boxes, etc.

Key competencies include:

  • Operates control to regulate temperature, pressure, speed and flow of operation
  • Measures and loads materials, items and ingredients for mixing into machines and feeding mechanisms
  • Monitors operation, regulates material supply and adds chemicals and colorants to mixture
  • Examines output for defects and conformity to specification
  • Maintains production records
  • Detect and notify inspection and shift supervisor of reject conditions found during the shift
  • Accurately account for production run quantities during a shift
  • Communicate specific job requirements to the next shift operator and receive instructions from the previous shift operator
  • Perform general cleanup in the department as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned and directed

Requirements:

Education: high school education or higher

Knowledge: An ability to read and write and understand basic arithmetic. Must be able to follow verbal as well as written instructions.

Experience: None, although 6 months or more experience is preferred.

Independent Judgment: Must understand and apply quality standards.

Quality: Follow operational procedures. It is extremely important to focus on the quality of work first so as to dramatically reduce rejects.

Physical Exertion: Lift 30 lbs or less. Most jobs require standing the entire shift. The Press Operator rotates on all machines, Jobs will vary. Each requires the use of hands, wrists, and shoulders, and hand/eye coordination. Jobs may require bending, twisting, stooping, and use of the back depending on the size of a part and nature or the job. Being a custom manufacturer, jobs continuously change on a regular basis, Operators have to work in conditions involving heat.

Attendance: Must be in attendance on a regular, full-time basis and conform to all Company Attendance Policies. Must be available and willing to work all shifts and overtime (including weekends) as necessary/required.
